22_Molding & Trim

On August 19th we made a mistake that cause no running water in the house, so we had to stop any work related to plumbing. We decided to work on molding and trim for the front part of the house. If we needed to go to toilet in between, we drove to a nearby McDonalds.

We started on August 20th with the island. My husband put paneling around the island, so he continued working with it, included putting a baseboard trim, until it was finished. We then put more baseboard trim for the rest of the kitchen cabinets.

After we finished with baseboard trim, we put the trim for windows and walls. These works needed to stop in between because we were running out of trim. We then worked on installing crown molding. We kept working on the molding and trim until August 23rd. By then, we installed all the crown molding and trim but we had not finished them i.e. caulking and painting them. On August 25th our furniture would come, so we needed to finish all the big work while we had empty space; we could do the caulking and painting around the furniture.

Other Stuff In Between
After having no running water for 2 days, the plumbers came on August 21st. The problem was the main valve got blocked; they had to cut it and replaced with a new one. This cost around $700 L. Now, we had to rethink our idea on doing the plumbing by ourselves…

On the same day, we also had a countertops guy to measure the kitchen. When he saw the post at the island, he was a little bit hesitant. He face-timed his supervisor, asking for advice. However, he was still in doubt. So he had to wait for a long time, for his supervisor to come and take a look.

That Monday was also a solar eclipse day. Even though Fayetteville didn’t get total eclipse, still people stopped working to see it, including my husband. We saw it from our backyard, using a welding helmet for our safety. It felt nice cause the level of hotness decreased for a while.
